Fun run goes a long way to assist those in need

Hundreds of staffers in the City's Safety and Security Directorate showed up for the fun run at Rondebosch Common to raise funds for the St Joseph’s Intermediate Paediatric Care facility. 

More than 500 participants completed the five kilometre fun run at the Rondebosch Common, representing the Fire and Rescue Service, Metro Police Department, Traffic Services, Law Enforcement, Public Emergency Communication Centre, Disaster Risk Management Centre , Public Safety Training College and other members from the Safety and Security Directorate.

Staff had the opportunity to either enter the race or sponsor a runner or runners to complete the  distance.

Funds raised will be donated to assist in caring for the young patients at the St Joseph’s Intermediate Peadiatric Care facility, which celebrates 90 years in existence this year.

Donations are open until end October, and the total amount of funds raised will be announced  during the first week in November.

‘It’s wonderful and heartwarming to see that so many staff put on their running shoes for a good cause. I have often said that our Directorate goes beyond the call of duty to protect and service and to really make a difference by helping those in need. The fun run is another example - the turnout at this event for charity is a motivation to us all to go the extra mile to support and to contribute towards the wellbeing of our communities and facilities like St. Joseph’s who make such a big difference,’ said Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security, Alderman JP Smith.
